The experiment has proven that males and females heart rate and anger levels increase when watching non-humorous films such as The Patriot. It is also proven that males have a larger heartrate and anger levels when watching these films compared to females. If this research was done, again it is recommended that a larger sample size is used and that the controlled variables are constant throughout the experiment as multiple variables were broken. In addition, I would have let the participants calm down for an hour as they had just had lunch. They would also be put in separate rooms so they have no influence whatsoever. These findings cannot be used in society, as they are not reliable and

I chose the article titled, “To Brake or Accelerate When the Light Turns Yellow?”, which begins to examine how the effects of stress differ between two age groups of younger and older participants. Specifically, how stress alters the decision making while operating a motor vehicle which is something most people do almost every day. These participants were asked to play a driving game in two conditions of either a controlled group setting or the experimental group setting that had to play after a stressful event. Both the young and older adults participated in 15 driving game trials, the experimental group had to stick their non-dominant hands in ice water and the control group had to put their hands inside warm water. To test the response of…

Plastic: A Toxic Love Story In the words of Susan Freinkel, “Plastic has built the modern world”. In this book, Freinkel recounts plastic’s original origins dating back to 1869 when the young inventor John Wesley Hyatt created a “white material with the consistency of shoe leather but a capacity to do much more”. This began the descent into the world we now know as Plasticville, and Freinkel’s information on the backstories of the eight most used plastic products: chairs, credit cards, combs, disposable lighters, grocery bags, IV bags, water bottles, and Frisbees.…

The introduction to this experiment goes over the background knowledge and purpose of this entire experiment along with the ideas/theories and hypothesis as well. Starting off with the background knowledge, two scientists named Vandello and Bosson, made the assumption in their research Precarious Manhood that the whole concept of manhood is “hard won and easily lost.” This means that it is easy for the title of “manhood” to be revoked from men and close to impossible to gain it back fully and maintain that title at all times. Vandello and Bosson found out that men mostly react in extreme stereotypical ways (aggression or high stress) when their manhood seems to be at risk or threatened. The primary stereotype men follow is showing their aggressive…

He watches the monitors with no emotion, waiting for the effects to begin. The subject begins to respond with a decreasing pulse and lessening temperature, unfortunately as quickly as the response began so did the disease regression. She thrashes in her restraints and screams before falling back to the table with no heartbeat, but instead of allowing her death, Robert restarts her heart in order to keep her alive for further experimentation with no intention of allowing her to rest. With an air of defeat Robert states “GA series, serum 391, Compound ineffective on humans” (I Am Legend).…

Digital Nation did a wonderful job presenting information about how the world is changing and becoming more digitalized. Though it may be a good video, we need to know if its content is valid. Using media literacy, we will understand where the information is coming from and whether or not it should be trusted. In order to do this, we need to ask questions about the different things we are viewing. After doing this, we can see that this video is literate in some cases because it has good authorship, but not in other cases because their experiments aren’t as credible with the questions we ask.…

Mr. Franklin used the experimental method in order to test his hypothesis that educational programs such as Sesame Street promote reading ability in elementary school children. In his research, the independent variable was the television shows that the children were instructed to watch, such as Sesame Street or a non-educational show. The dependent variable is the child’s reading ability in elementary school, which is measured the child’s scores on a standardized reading test. While Mr. Franklin’s research has a strong hypothesis and operational definitions, there are still flaws in his research. These flawed aspects of the research design weaken the validity of Mr. Franklin’s conclusion.…

Pre-game Sex: Does it hurt or help an athlete? One of the oldest sports myths is that sex before a big game can hinder an athlete’s performance; however, there is no answer to this date about the influence of sexual activity and how it impacts athletic performance. Many young athletes refrain from sex and practice abstinence before an event, believing that sex can decrease athletic performance (Fischer). This has gained popularity among many successful athletes like Mohammed Ali who abstained from his sexual desires and credited his success with the practice of abstinence before a fight and that this helped him build up his aggression against his opponent.…
