He ruled from 41-54 AD. He was hiding behind curtains while the killing spree was happening. They had to see a hump in the curtains but it was said that the Praetorian Guards purposely did not kill Claudius because they liked him. In my opinion he was not a real threat to them so it was no reason to kill him. He had a lot of things going on. He drooled all the time, had a limp, stuttered, when he was excited his nose got stuffy, and if he was angry then he would start foaming at the mouth. Caligula was really mean to Claudius for obvious reasons. Not saying i agree with him or if that is right in any means necessary. You should never make fun of someone for something they can not control. I do not think he wanted to be born like that. In my opinion Claudius not being killed and becoming emperor and Caligula being killed was Karma. Even though he had a lot going on such as drooling and foaming at the mouth he was really smart and actually a good leader. Claudius was really unlucky with love. His third wife was his first love. Her name was Messalini. Needless to say his first love was crazy. Messalini gave Claudius two children a boy and a girl but there is a lot of question whether they were his or not because she was a nympho maniac. She opened up a whore house and held a competition there for who could sleep with the most men. She won. Claudius had her killed though because they caught her at the whore house. So if that is not crazy the senate saw that Claudius was distraught and set him up with his aunt. She came into the marriage with a son which she made Claudius make his aire. After that she poisoned him twice. The first time he got really sick and the second time he died. He attracts crazy
