Pi Patel, a man who finds himself stuck in a small lifeboat for over 227 days, is a fine example of a courageous character. This character comes from the book The Life of Pi by Yann Martel. In this book we see Pi's bravery portrayed in most of the book, but there are a few sections in particular where we can see Pi's audacious behavior. For example, when Pi starts to train Richard Parker, a tiger that is stuck on the life raft with him. Furthermore, when Pi asks to be baptized even though he had just been confronted about practicing 3 religions.…

Courage to Speak up I have always hated high school from the day I left middle school, until my junior year of high school. For myself, it felt like being in jail; I say that because you had no freedom, you had to eat what they provided for you, had a dress code, and behave how they wanted you to. The beginning of my junior year of high school was a difficult time for myself, so I made the decision to drop out. Months had gone by, and I realized that it was a huge mistake.…

“Courage is the most important of all the virtues because without courage, you can't practice any other virtue consistently” (Angelou). As a kid, I didn’t have the courage I needed to see the most important aspect of life, I spent most of my time trying to fit in amongst my peers, with my family, and in my education. However, this essay isn’t about the struggles of being a part of the pack, it’s about the courage to stand out and set out in your own direction. This wasn’t a task for the weak-hearted, this was a journey that weathered my personable attitude and robbed me of my benevolence, it built walls and segregated me from the people I cared for the most.…
