Imagine someone happened to be placed in a situation where their life or someone else’s life were in danger, and they rushed to help knowing it can make the situation even more risky for themselves. Most people would consider such a thing to be an act of courage, however, the idea of courage is much more than putting oneself in danger to save someone else. Courage is known as the ability to do something that may be frightening or dangerous and is often referred to as willingly risking one’s own life to protect that of another human beings. There is much more to a courageous person than putting his or her life at risk to save another, but the ability to overcome and triumph in any situations that causes one to be fearful, stressed, or make …show more content…
Someone who is courageous often times might be very fearful, what defines them as courageous is their ability to power through and face this fear head on, such as fighting a battle occurring within oneself. Often times people suffer from severe depression, constant thoughts are running through their minds, and they are often stuck in an endless cycle of conflicting emotions and pain. This definition of courage can include the ability to face this situation head on, and overcome these feelings that may be overwhelming. To be heroic one must be fearless in a goal to help or protect others and oneself. The difference is that to be considered courageous one does not have to succeed or be fearless in this goal, but to simply attempt and overcome certain situations that may make one feel hopeless. This may also be known as the courage to persevere. Perseverance is a hard thing to achieve as setbacks and failure have a huge impact on the confidence of a person. Often times when a person fails, he or she feels as if they can’t do it, and it won’t be possible. The courage to persevere would be to continue working towards that goal no matter how many times one falls short from the objective. Perseverance is different than the generalized definition of courage because it is not really a courageous act associated with danger, but rather associated with the fear of failure. Failure is a common fear shared amongst many others, and it takes courage to accept failure, and use it is a motivation rather than to let it deteriorate one’s
