Crazy Cooking Satire

Crazy Cooking

I’ve been counting sheep,
Putting my mind to sleep.
Bored while I listen to the recipe.
It’s five pm and I’m already sleepy,
My brain is no longer working.
Finally the recipe has been read.
I must now make the cookie recipe!
Sweaty palms and salty saliva.
Oh how I wish I had listened!

I slowly make my way to the kitchen.
I try to recall what was said,
But I simply can’t.
I go into panic mode.
Flour, eggs, milk are in the mixer.
Did I add eggs?
I can’t remember.
Two more eggs are thrown into the mixer.
The cookies are in the oven.
Time to relax.
Until I forget how long they bake!
After ten minutes I take the cookies out.

“What’s done is done.” I say under my breath.
I take the cookies to the teacher.
The bell rang right before

Satire is an important element in writing. It’s a way for writers to take a step back and comment on something; to show how ridiculous it is without just flat out saying it. Satire is usually used as a fun way of pointing out the faults in society and current events. The Other Paris by Mavis Gallant was written in 1956, barely a decade after World War 2 finished, the world was rebuilding and marriage was seen as a safe option, a way to move forward and start a life together. The main character of The Other Paris, Carol thinks of marriage as a security blanket rather than a lifelong commitment to the one you love, she accepts a proposal from a man named Howard, a man she hadn’t even known for three weeks…simply because she assumes that nobody…

    Satire In The Simpsons

In today’s society we are introduced to many problems that are always put to the side and is never taken care of because people are so in denial and don’t want to face the truth. In the simpsons intro the writer uses satire( the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues) to explore the flaws of society through his made up fictional characters. Some issues that I have come to a realization are the fact that parents in this century are not paying enough attention to their children and holding them fully responsible for their own actions. In other words children are doing whatever they please with no care whatsoever in the world because they know that there is no consequences for their actions. This also causes these children and teens to misbehave in class which leads to a distraction that takes away learning from kids whom parents actually send them to school to learn.…

Justin, Great post! There are so many drugs that are illegal, yet it seems that the ones that do the most damage are the ones that are legal. Many people overdose on these medications yet pharmaceutical companies try and make them more available to the public.…

    Satire In Brave New World

    • 982 Words

Samuel L. Jackson once said, “We’ve come a long way in our thinking, but also in our moral decay.” This quote holds true today as society stays rapidly changing and people become more and more desensitized to the horrors of the world. The line between right and wrong fades and turns to a larger gray area, and many things that happen in society today make us question how we, as a collective people, ended up where we are and how we acquired the customs we have today. Aldous Huxley, in his novel Brave New World, uses a great deal of satire and exaggeration to express his concerns for the society he was born into and bring attention to the problems of moral decay, drug dependency, and brainwashing, among other things, in the world.…

    Satire On Drugs

In the United States something as simple as a drug possession charge can get you into serious trouble, with some offenses even marked as felonies. (Controlled Substances Act, 2014) This is a ludicrous idea, drug crimes are usually victimless, restricting drug usage violates basic human rights, and even tobacco and alcohol are legal. In addition to these things, putting drug charges on a person’s criminal record, or sending someone to jail on drug charges pushes more people to a life of crime. For these reasons, I believe that people should not be punished for using drugs.…
