As markets grow worldwide, the pressure on natural resources continues to grow as well. This is causing many companies to look at different ways of developing their product. For many producers, by just looking at the life cycle of their product, they learn that they can reduce operating costs, including lowering their energy consumption and raw material use. Recycling alone does not look at the big environmental picture. For Example, the Levis Strauss jeans company suggests wearing jeans for a longer duration between washings. They illustrate how this will save natural resources and emissions during the consumption phase of the product. National

In Perrysberg, Ohio they have built a solar farm in which they draw 22% of their electricity. One billion crayons and seven hundred million markers are made from solar power. Crayola is also starting to make the barrels of their markers black instead of white, which allows for more recyclable plastic. This gives second lives to over a million pounds of plastic bottles. The life cycle of a Crayola marker, however, does not end in the landfill. Recently Crayola launched an initiative called “Crayola Color Cycle”. Through this initiative, K-12 schools throughout the US and Canada collect used markers and send them to conservation facilities where they will be turned into fuel for burning. Crayola is certified by the Equal Employment Opportunity(EEO). They do not discriminate against race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or gender identity. They provide jobs for people with disabilities and protect veterans. Factory worker J’Ana says “People who work at Crayola are like kids and work in a kid inspired …show more content…

Our generation has been told that if we do not recycle, we will live in a world of waste. The world will be destroyed from all the harvesting of resources, and costs will soar because of the expenses that comes from extraction of raw materials. The author of “Recycling make greens go gaga, but it’s a real burden for the rest of us,” William Shughart II, argues the opposite. He says that the reharvesting of the raw material is more cost efficient and more environmentally friendly than the recycling and reprocessing of the once used plastic and glass. Shughart is correct in saying glass is more effective to remake rather than recycle because of the natural abundance of sand.…

It is a designed routine for Americans: People go to work to make money, go home, sit on the soft, and watch T.V. The advertisement sells the idea of the products you own are out of date. Modern times offer a very diverse way of expressing oneself. The expression of a single person who consumes more than they need may not be enough to hurt the environment; however, the overproduction of harmful waste from big business is big enough to impact the environment. Critically acclaimed author Anna Lappé describes the climate crisis through the food production industry in a sector of industry where people rarely scrutinize in her article “The Climate Crisis at the End of Our Fork.” In a very different, yet scarily similar way Carolyn Merchant metaphorically describes the problems with modern human tendency and desires through the image of a shopping mall in “Eden Commodified.”…

My vision for America is as bright as the colors on our flag and we are already moving towards it as we continue to advance our science and technology every day. In my vision, I see an America where you can go to a hospital, type in your problems on a computer, and it will tell the doctor what tests you need to further determine what ails you. The doctor will be able to enter your test results onto the computer and it will tell what is wrong, then gives the treatment options. In this vision, there will no longer be waiting hours in hospitals, nor will it take weeks to obtain an appointment; the process will be a million times faster. This is not the only change I see coming: as we share more and more ideas with other countries continuing to find faster cheaper means of production, we will continue to find more time and money to spend on the environment.…

There is one planet that is inhabitable, so as humans we should do everything in our power to make the Earth sustainable. As many think recycling promises a brighter future for our planet, they are quite frankly being deceived. We are more likely to drive ourselves into the ground by funding recycling than to just leave the garbage to, quite literally, rot in its own filth. To some people recycling is just a lost cause, but to many others’ it has wedged its way into becoming a part of his or her lifestyle.…
