• In his article, Crawford Killian describes the characteristics of the typical web surfer. How do these match up with your own characteristics when you are on the web? Of the four different web viewers, which category do you typically fall under?
• I consider myself a user. I don’t like to scan, and want information right there in front of me. I don’t like any distractions, and I want information that I can find fast, and easy. The second type of viewer I am is a talker, because I like to leave comments on articles, forums, and on YouTube videos.
• As in the article, I find I do have to read slower when I am reading on the net, but even if I am studying from a book, I must read each word rather than scanning to get the most understanding from the text. Also, the “busy” websites usually have too much advertisements, and I don’t know which is part of the website, and which are just advertisements. Often, if I click on the wrong thing I end up going on a wild goose chase. Example: http://www.jamilin.com/
• Rather than entertainment, I usually am looking for information on the web. If I am looking to read the Bible I like to listen to an audio bible, instead of just reading, although I have done both because sometimes I can’t find the audio bible easily because the way some browsers are, I think I am saving something and then when I need it, I can’t find it.
• If I am looking on the web for information on how to do something, if it seems like a complicated task, I prefer visuals. If I still can’t understand how, then I will go to YouTube. But the disadvantage of trying to learn something on YouTube is that sometimes they talk to fast, and I must stop and rewind too
