Citizens and public officials disagreed where the power in the government should be. There were constant disputes because they could not balance the power between in Patricians and Plebeians. In 140-133 BC the Gracchus brothers wanted to give power back to the lower class and tribunes. They gave land and vital resources back to the lower class people after, the wealthier citizens took their land to farm on. Julius Caesar was a great leader, who eventually became corrupt. He was a good leader to the armies, and brought them to victory in times of war, but was unable to control his power. The government and the people decided that he should come home after the war, and not cross the river. Caesar did not agree with this plan, so he ordered his soldiers to build the bridge to go across anyway. They were able to assemble the bridge in less than ten days. They crossed over and came back. Caesar listened to directions but disregarded their directions completely at first. He wasted time and resources to prove that he could have done something that nobody wanted or needed him to do.
