Craft Shack Descriptive Writing

We all woke up at dawn and it was slightly miserable. Fifteen of us stayed in the craft shack until 3am the night before because the campers were officially gone and we knew that the next morning was our last. The melancholy air surrounded us until we arrived at breakfast to see a buffet of waffles, pancakes, eggs and all the other breakfast foods imaginable (including beans and toast for the all the unique british counselors). Together, we all sat and ate with cheer as we attempted to avoid the topic that was on everyone’s mind. We were quickly put to work on camp cleanup, so the thought of leaving was pushed to the very back of our minds in hopes that it would disappear and maybe not be true. I was thrown into the craft shack with seven other counselors and we were put to the impossible task of cleaning it. The craft shack is eclectic, wild, and impossible to clean. We walked back up to the front of the camp covered in sweat, glitter, and whatever paint ended up all over us. The usually five minute walk lasted twenty minutes because of frequent stops to dance at different points in the camp. We were laughing and jamming out when we walked into Andrews Hall, but that immediately stopped when we saw everyone doing Shapes. Shapes is a last day activity where every counselor writes on every other counselor’s “shape” (this year it was a piece of paper that looked like a candle) little messages for them to hold on to. This activity is accompanied by hugging and crying, because writing in shapes is the final goodbye that you get. Some of my favorite notes on my shape (that made me cry) were:
“Thank you so much for this summer! I’m so happy I got to meet you and I’ll miss our random chats about things like tea, music, and laundry… See you when you come to England! - Ellie

Camp is place unlike any other. It is a place that people’s wall begin to fall down and new relationships are formed. This is bound to happen when you drop 200 teenagers in the middle of the Smoky Mountains without any of their electronics. I was lucky enough to be chosen for the Project Serve team and got to see camp from a new perspective. I got to be a part of all of the behind the scenes work, but also daily interactions with all of the campers due to my job at camp.…

Most teenagers would probably tell you that the beginning of their adulthood was marked by having to do laundry for the first time, or being able to drive alone, or perhaps no longer sitting at the children's table at family events. But for me, it happened this past summer, when I made the very difficult decision that I would not return to Coleman Country Day Camp. To those who were not fortunate enough to have grown up at summer camp, this might not seem like such a big decision to make. But Coleman was my outlet, my second home for ten consecutive summers and spending those two months anywhere else seemed inconceivable to me.…

I arrive at camp, Camp Long Lake, some people call it a great merry place, others, they would prefer to watch paint dry. At least so I’ve heard. Now I’ve been forced to come to this place due to my inadequate decisions and treating people poorly. So I can only speculate that this week will be an atrocious one.…

The next five days were the same, tiring routine. Get up, get firewood, cook breakfast, wake up the kids, help Sam with the harnesses, round up the animals, and go. Only six days into this very long journey and I'm ready to sleep for two days straight. It really doesn't help that Grace keeps reminding me of Susan and all their memories they could have had.…

The year has been difficult. Shortly after we settled into our colony, a long winter began. We had not had time to properly begin growing crops, and if not for the hunters’ good fortune in finding game, we would surely have all perished. I longed for the sunny skies of England, and I thought that if we didn’t die of starvation, then we would certainly have…

There is nothing more rewarding than sitting around a campfire in the mountains, after a day of backpacking, especially in the San Gorgonio Wilderness, drinking coffee and telling or listening to stories about all of our adventures we have had together. Yearly we got together to set our monthly backpacking schedule into the local mountains, and then a week in the Sierra, with our teenagers. Which of course, always includes The San Gorgonio Wilderness in the spring. It is rare to find so much compatibility in a group like ours, and most important there is always safety in numbers, which we all recognized, as we shall see. We adults always talked through all decisions we encountered.…

The trip to a camping site in the middle of a Pennsylvania forest- a trip I would never forget- lead me to the discovery of myself and my transition into adulthood. This trip was through the summer camp I have attended for now eleven years; Liberty Lake Day Camp located in Columbus, New Jersey, is my second home. I grew up in this camp, and when I finally reached the age to become a L.I.T, a leader in training, I was eager to undergo the program with my friends I always attended camp with. This trip was a reward to all the hard work we do as L.I.Ts. Little did I know the annual L.I.T trip to the camping site would be life changing.…

Saturday started out cool but sunny. The air was filled with the customary morning-in-a-camping-area smell of bacon, the culmination of at least fifty pounds of sizzling pork being fried at the same time in a hundred or more fry pans. In 1964, bacon was mandatory camping vittles, with the exception of corned beef hash—canned—with msg—and sodium. Only vegetarians and spoil-sports substituting ham changed the rule. Stacey prepared breakfast that year, and he ate as voraciously as anyone else in the family.…

Many articles and stories show conflict. Depending on the person, some react in a negative or a positive way. Out of all the ways an individual can react to conflict, a positive attitude is the best way to respond. Why is this? First off, “conflict” is a serious disagreement or argument.…

I am Magaskawee and am 13 years old. Just recently, the government has opened residential schools for the sake of “education.” Residential schools operate on a half-day system, in which we have to spend half the day in the actual classroom, and the other half at work. The theory behind this idea is we will acquire the vital and essential skills that are demanded to be able to earn a living as adults. We wake up to the deafening sound of the bell in the very early morning before sunrise, which signals for us to dress up and attend the chapel.…

The summer before 7th grade I did a camp… a junior police camp in New Jersey, but I can’t start there. A few years prior we had met a nice family while vacationing in St. Maarten they had a daughter named Kylie who was around my age. We became very good friends almost immediately, but the only problem is they lived in New Jersey and I lived in Minnesota. Our families started going to St. Maarten every year at the same time together. One year the father, John asked me “Hey would you be interested in doing my junior police camp this summer”…
