Case Study: Cradle To Crayons

When talking to the staff at Cradles to Crayons about their views on strengths and areas of improvement for the organization they all targeted the volunteers. When asking about this with them they had discussed their frustrations with volunteers who come in and do not give the effort that we expect and in repercussion, we spend more time redoing and fixing mistakes at every time. When looking at this from an intern’s perspective, I see this as a lack of effort but instead a lack of coaching by the group leaders. I say this because at Cradles to Cradles we have volunteers come into the facility on a daily basis and with this, we have a number of different activity’s that we can set up for them to help us meet the organizational goals. As part …show more content…
When looking at the organization’s board of directors it provides leadership, business acumen among other things. When looking at each individual city they also have Family Advisory Council and Corporate Advisory Council. The members of each of these groups play a gigantic roll into the goal of to providing children in our communities with the essential items they need to thrive. The people who make up the board of corporate board of directors at the Cradles to Crayons in Philadelphia are made up of people who are part of an organization who has helped in Cradles to Crayons goals. It was explained to me that these members were chosen based on donations and or time committed to the organization. When looking into the two other city’s boards of directors, I found them to be similar but significantly smaller than …show more content…
One of the first things that I would suggest would be the change in the handling process of how they take in donations. As I see it the handling process is far too long and I would try and eliminate the number of times a person has to pick up each individual item before its given to a child. Another area of improvement that I would like to see would be to change in how volunteer groups and activities are paired up with each other. What I mean by this is that when choosing a group activity for 7 -year -old girl scouts it would be different than the one you would give PECO volunteers. I feel we could be much more effective if we would prepare the activity around the groups instead of the other way

Local and National Outreach Although they identified as a national organization, the NLHO and its founders always made sure to maintain their primary focus within the community from which they lived in, especially when it came to educating and empowering young women and girls. As was described in Undivided Rights, the NLHO began co-sponsoring college classes and workshops in 1988 in an effort to educate Latinas on a variety of health and reproductive issues, such as mental health, patient’s rights, birth control, sexuality, cancer prevention, homophobia, teen pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, and alcohol abuse (2004). Keeping true to their commitment with the Self-Help model, the NLHO successfully and effectively incorporated this model…

After our firm conducted our analysis and needs assessment, we were able to identify the issues that The Lincoln Family YMCA encountered within their organization. Due to our budget we are only able to focus on the problems labeled high priority in our database. Even though, this may be unfortunate The Leading Volunteer Management Consulting Firm is still more than happy to fix what we can especially since, these issues are considered the root of all of the minor dilemmas. Some of the mishaps categorized as high priority consist of: developing specific job descriptions, involving top management and staff in the volunteer program planning process and enforcing new recruitment strategies to increase the amount of long- term volunteers. After doing tons of reach on the Boys & Girls Club of America I am convinced that this organization is one that goes through lots of training and preparation to get the right people ready to be apart of the legacy they are creating for our future generations. Being a former member and employee of the company I can say from my personal experience this company will do whatever it takes to make sure they have an eye for finding qualified, caring, professionals that love to work with children to help show these kids that someone cares about their future and is willing to invest time and energy on the job to do it. Majority of the Boys & Girls Clubs have all faced a common issue, a lack in the leadership department. Many of the current leaders or seasoned leaders are at a point where retirement is their next step in life and no longer have to work anymore, which has caused a gap in leadership with the new upcoming leaders of the organization.…

Class Connections: 1. Through volunteering at KinderFrogs, I mainly learned that gender can be such a social construct. Meaning, we as humans either consciously or not, typically adhere to the different gender stereotypes that have been presented to us throughout our lives. While we have discussed this concept in great detail in class, we usually focused on the negative aspects of “socializing gender.” For example, we have talked about how boys feel pressured not to cry or play with dolls, girls feel like they can’t be as good at math, and one’s personal appearance determines what gender they are.…

Kids of my generation around America today are becoming lazier and lazier, losing interest in school faster and faster, and helping each other less and less. However, there are organizations that are helping kids maximize on their potential and to be the leaders of tomorrow, one of them being NHS. It starts from the very beginning, giving kids the goal of being in the association in the first place. People are nothing without goals, and by giving kids that might be lost or confused a good goal, it has pushed them in the right direction. Secondly, NHS pushes us to become leaders, and what better way to become a leader than doing community service, and doing extracurricular activities in school.…

As an extension of this project, I would like to submit by request to observe the October 19, 2015 board meeting. This observation would be for my Nonprofit Management course at MPA@UNC, the online Masters of Public Administration (MPA) program at University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill. Nonprofit board members must deal with securing donations, marketing and ensuring the accountability of the organization they serve. Michael Worth (2014) shows the advantages and disadvantages of different types of boards (See Table 2). In the case of both appointed and hybrid boards, appointed members who serve because of the status or position they hold may not be dedicated to the organization or possess the ability and availability to perform their duties. These appointees may not appreciate the honor and opportunity of serving. However, appointed members who possess a particular expertise and/or experience may add…
