Cradle Of Civilization

The film I chose to watch for my second film review was Iraq: The Cradle of Civilization. This was episode one in the Legacy documentary series ‘The Origins of Civilization”. The narrator Michael Wood did a phenomenal job showing great visuals of Iraq. The culture presented in the film is focused on the Muslims. The documentary investigates the beginning birthplace of civilization. It explains the creations of the arts, writings and as well as religions. I found this video extremely interesting regarding the history that coincides with biblical stories. It was very cool to see how so many things that came out of the Old Testament come out of the melting pot of Iraq. This film did a great job explaining the history but it definitely could have been better structured. I believe the film is to inform the viewer about the true roots of civilization on a biblical level. The filmed grabbed my attention by opening my eyes to how many things I already knew about before watching the film. The documentary opened by talking about the Garden of Eden and its location in regards to the banks of the Tigris and Euphrates. It was interesting that for the many years I spent growing up in a …show more content…
I often found it very difficult to keep up with things because the narrator would be talking about one topic and then jump to another topic but then come back to the original topic. I just found that extremely hard to keep up with and I think I could have gotten more out of the information if it was organized in a better formation. The speaker also was distracting by how he carried himself while trying to educate the viewers. His apparel blended in with scenery and it was very distracting when it some what looked like he had a floating head. I realize that has nothing to do with the content of the documentary but when it comes to doing a review of the episode as a whole I did find that that took away from the

Favela: in Brazil, an urban slum or ghetto; illegal squatter settlement. This is how the film Favela Rising begins. It begins by describing what a favela is, which I am glad it does because this is a term that I have never heard of before. This film discusses what life is like in Brazil and goes through different slums in Brazil. It was made to inform and show people what the slums were like in Brazil and to give the audience a glimpse of what life is like for them.…

You know nothing about about what you are watching; unless you know the setting. Setting plays an important role in helping us understand what is happening in the story we need background knowledge its like skipping to the third book of Harry Potter without reading the first 2 books, you miss out on references that you would have known if you read the first 2 books and this is true in these 2 short stories known as By The Waters Of Babylon by Stephen Vincent Benet and thank you ma’am by Langston Hughes The setting in the waters of babylon is significant because several plot points bring attention to thwhate scenery in the story. As John is going to the forbidden land he comes across this “There was the great river below, like a…

Documentary and War Photography “Is it in the interest of purity that society should hang its morally stained linens upon its lines to be stared at?” Jacob Riis, a documentary photographer in the late 19th and early 20th centuries asked this very question in an effort to stir the thoughts of documentary photographers around the world, as well as their audiences. Documentary photography can be defined as a type of photography that documents historically relevant events and scenes as well as those occurring in daily life. Kumare Documentary I found the Kumare documentary very entertaining and enlightening to watch. The clear message that everything each of us needs can be found inside of us was demonstrated in the ways that many of Kumare 's followers were able to improve and change their lives in spite of the fact that Kumare was not truly a guru or spiritual leader at the beginning. I also felt that Kumare learned as much from the process as his students did. While Vikram went into the process not believing that he was anything special, and not believing that anyone was really a true spiritual leader and that most of them were fakes, he came out realizing that he really did have the power to help people.…

I had to read this tale quite a few time before I understood the passage there was so much going on. What I gather from the tale of Atrahasis is something that reminded me of American slavery. You got higher gods having lower level gods doing all the labor work but then created man not for the sake of humanity. Igigi-gods feeling like slaves, disliking the work load, created humans to continue to their labor. So you got Mesopotamians servants to Igigi-gods who are servants to the great Anunna-gods.…

Another prisoner wants to use his faith in Christianity to help young children not to go down the path that he has. These prisoners are examples of the strength and redemption that Christians believe God can offer. Another religion covered in the documentary is Islam. The documentary spends a great deal of time illustrating how many countries practicing Islam are having a tough time trying to find the right balance of how to run the government in a way that actually reflects what the religion believes. This is shown through the violence, wars and conflict going on by those perpetuating the hateful and misconstrued beliefs and those who are trying to make a change for their country and the religion that they believe in.…

In this response, I will be talking about the argument of Christoffer Guldbrandsen in his documentary Stealing Africa. Christoffer Guldbrandsen’s intention of this film was to show the world of Zambia’s extinct copper mining tax return. He is informing us that Ivan Glasenberg, CEO of Glencore, which owns Mopani Copper Mines, is cheating the government of Zambia and not supplying that country with the tax funds they rightfully deserve. Zambia is known to have the third largest copper reserve in the world, but somehow the citizens of Zambia live on less than one dollar a day and eighty percent of the people who live there are unemployed. Because of this Zambia is ranked among the twenty poorest countries worldwide.…
