In terms of CPTs from Arabidopsis, they have an extra N-terminal amino acid sequence that is not in the CPTs of yeast or Escherichia coli. AtCPT1 in Arabidopsis, which is involved in dolichol biosynthesis, has a highly hydrophobic N-terminal sequence that contains a transmembrane helix motif. Extraction of AtCPT1 that was expressed in E. coli contained no detergent in the extraction buffer this resulted in no detection of AtCPT1 in the soluble fraction. When a detergent was added then the AtCPT1 was detected meaning that AtCPT1 is found in a membrane (Surnacz and Swiezewska, 2011).
