Cpr Railroad Experience

Decent Essays
Yesterday, I visited a CPR railroad worker, Mr. Leith, at his house. My first impression was that how come his whole family was crammed inside of that tiny house. They had three children and one more infant that had to be carried around by her mother. The children had no space to run around. I visited them around supper time, they had porridge that had no meat and vegetables in site, but it was at least very filling. Mrs. Leith did not have any, I suppose it was because I had her serving. WE sat down after supper and I requested him to tell us what it was like being part of the CPR construction. He enhanced many times that most people did not see it as a pride but a kind of torture all the way through. Even at the end, when all the leaders

Clinical Context & Experience I completed my final two shifts on 11/24 and 12/1 at Sharp. The unit had a pretty large census both nights, so we were fairly busy both nights. During this shift I had to notify the doctor twice and felt the most relevant journal topic was advocacy. The first night I had three patients which included a 84 year old man who sustained a hip and right shoulder/humerous fracture from a fall at home and a history of HTN, CKD, MI with coronary stent placement, and diabetes, an 86 year old woman admitted for rapid A-fib with history of TIA, HTN, CHF, and rheumatoid arthritis, and finally a 35 year old woman who was being discharged following her treatment for polynephritis. During my final shift, I cared for a 71 year…

Tim’s work relates to Verse 4 of the Beatitudes, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted”. This beatitude expresses that those who are going through sorrowful or painful times (like those of the children in hospitals) are understood by God and God is there for us during these times. Similarly, Tim employs this same value of understanding into his work. Like God, Tim understands the sadness, loneliness, fear and trauma that these children may experience dealing with illness, children worrying about something they shouldn’t ever have to worry about at their age; death. Through Tim’s TLC foundation, he is reaching out to comfort them.…

By drawing this direct comparison between the situation at Memorial and at Bellevue, Fink presents the reader with an alternative response to a similar dilemma and allows them to question the response at Memorial. Additionally, she avoids a fallacious argument because the two situations are alike in the relevant aspects of being a disaster-response in a hospital with limited resources. Secondly, Fink presents a microcosm of the situation at Memorial in the evacuation of sick infants who needed an incubator. “Gershanik depended heavily on technology to keep his critically ill newborns alive. Transporting babies this sick without an incubator was unthinkable.…

When I started working as a CAN, as well as volunteering in the health care field, I understood that the work involved included helping residents in activities of daily living. What I found out after I started working was how much of an impact the job makes on people. When I was volunteering to help a woman go grocery shopping I did not think much of it. However, when I came into her home and started putting her groceries away she started tearing up. I found out that she and her husband used to always go grocery shopping together and would later play a game that involved putting the groceries away.…

I began to realize, these people were not broken objects without meaning or purpose. They could not be defined by their bodies, ages, or aliments. They could only be defined by their lives, passions, and purposes. Through my experiences with the inspiring residents during my first fieldwork, I was able to learn that everyone has a story to share; however, to see this you have to look past their external appearances. Antoine de Saint Exupery once said, “One sees clearly only with the heart.…

After this experience, I became more passionate about providing support for children and families in difficult situations, especially the hospital setting. I volunteer in the maternity concierge of Mission Hospital, where I am part of the Baby’s First Ride program. Essentially, I am responsible for making cribs for babies, rooms for mothers, and best of all discharging mothers and babies from the hospital. When families are ready to go home I am one of the lucky few who get to wheel them outside. I also make rounds in the ward offering water and asking if any if the parents need anything or running any errands for the nurses. I absolutely love that I get to be present while babies see their first glimpse of the world outside the hospital.…
