The first difference is the role of women. In “How Stories Came to Earth,” women were equal to men. An example of this is when Anansi’s wife helps him and tells him what to do. However, in “Coyote Steals Fire,” Men are valued more than women. An example of this is the dice, female teeth were only worth one point, while the male teeth were two points. The next difference is is the goals of the tricksters. In “Coyote Steals Fire,” Coyote’s goal was to obtain fire from the Thunder God and return fire back to the different tribes around the world. However, in “How Stories Came to Earth,” Anansi’s goal was to obtain stories from the Sky God so everyone around the world would know the endings to them. The third difference is the type of tricksters. In “Coyote Steals Fire,” the trickster was a coyote, but in “How Stories Came to Earth,” the trickster was a spider named Anansi. The last difference is how they obtained their goals. In “How Stories Came to Earth,” the way Anansi achieved his goal was by trapping four animals and taking them to the Sky God. Even though the Sky God didn’t think he could do it because he was a spider, he had to capture a leopard, hornets, a fairy, and a python. However in “Coyote Steals Fire,” Coyote chose to play a game of dice, which he ended up cheating at the game to obtain fire back, which almost cost him his life
