In movies centered around high school, there are always three basic cliques; the nerds or geeks, the popular girls, and the jocks. These are supposed to symbolize a social class system. The nerds or geek is portrayed as weak and frail people, usually being male. These outcasts are depicted as helpless beings who are not strong enough to fight back against the bully. The popular girls are shown as having the perfect figure and the fashionable clothes, usually being expensive. The group of girls is told as having multiple relationships and are the ones guys will chase down just to be seen with them. Then, the jocks. Shown as bullies to the nerds or geeks, are dating the popular group of girls. All of these cliques follow one pattern, they all are based around the stereotypes, either positive or negative, each gender is given. The women are on a hunt to find a man and the fall in love with him. The men who are jocks are trying to impress women with their strength and ability to be compatible. The geeks or nerds are trying to scrape by without being beaten up because they are not tough enough and do not have the physical strength to fight back. Stereotypes have twisted their way into the entertainment that is in our everyday lives. These cliques have seen in books, magazines, television shows, and movies. Society is surrounded by these and it constructs our views of high school and teenager’s lives.
