When applying for a job for a specific position you would send both a cover letter and a letter of interest. A cover letter is used to express your interest in the job you are applying for. A letter of interest is written to show the employer why you are a good fit for the specific job. Even though most employers ask for both a cover letter and a letter of interest, there is a difference between the two.
