Have you ever wondered what you would do if one of thee’s family members was put in jail and then escaped? I know you just said yes! The answer is Probably not, but in the book Peace Like A River Ruben’s family has a good life but Davy shoots to classmates trying to kill him. Davy is forced into hiding after escaping jail, The family travels through the Midwest with the FBI following them Ruben finds Davy and they get back home without him getting caught but Jape Waltzer shoots their dad and they live pretty much ever after? This essay’s purpose is to tell you why being courageous is important, and to show acts of courage that Ruben (the main character), Swede (his sister), and Davy (the reason everything happens).
The big act of courage that Davy makes is in Chapter 5. Davy has been jailed, and the family is doing a lawsuit to try and break him out. The lawsuit fails and not seeing another option Davy breaks out of jail. This was a large act of courage because he had to break out by himself with no support and if he got caught there would be large consequences, there might have even been a death penalty if that was a thing back then. When they get Davy back in the end Swede says “Ruben and I would’ve broke you out if you hadn’t beat us to it.”(pg. 295) this quote is explaining that Davy’s siblings were also brave …show more content…
This has courage for two reasons. The first reason is about her not taking about it, I takes guts to keep that type of stuff in. If you’ve ever had a big secret and you keep it in for to long you’ll start to go insane and you’ll eventually have to tell someone. The second reason is for going through that, the book made it sound like she didn’t even fight back and if that was me I would’ve at least tried to do something so that also took some
