The majority of this presentation involved Wilson telling the audience relevant personal anecdotes. He first explains how his mother attempted to keep away from neighborhood gang violence, but when a person rumored to be a part of the Klu Klux Klan (KKK) murdered two black people in his neighborhood, he realized that he would always be in danger because of the color of his skin, and therefore, decided to get involved in social justice. Wilson also described other important instances regarding racism that had an impact on him, including but not limited to, the murder of his close friend and his own experience involving police brutality.

Health disparities refer to preventable lack of opportunities people have to achieve optimal health (Iwamoto, 2017). When Wilson recounted his experience with police brutality, he explained that he not only experienced microaggressions painting him as the “angry black guy who deserved it,” but also felt that he did not receive the best care at the health center he attended due to the color of his skin: people did not rush when he asked for help, they did not take his concerns seriously, and they rolled their eyes at him when he spoke. His experience just shows that people of color have so many difficulties regarding proper healthcare, and this is system we should stop
