Courage Courage: the ability to do something that frightens one. Everyone has to be courageous at one point or another. In the book “To Kill A Mockingbird,” by Harper Lee, there were several times that characters had to be courageous. In order to stand up for something you believe or smaller things like presenting in front of your peers takes courage. One way or another you must be courageous. In the book “To Kill A Mockingbird,” by Harper Lee, people like Scout, Boo Radley, and Atticus all do something courageous. For example, Atticus believed that Tom Robinson, a black man, was innocent and did not rape Mayella Ewell. So Atticus tried to defend him in his court case (Lee,276). Even though Atticus came up short, Atticus had courage. Boo Radley had to protect Jem and Scout from being killed by Bob Ewell. So Boo stabbed Bob to prevent him from hurting Jem and Scout (Lee,276). …show more content…
The smallest things that you do every day can be courageous. Like trying a new type of food, doing something by yourself for the first time, or just doing something new in general. Bullying is a problem today and one thing that takes courage is standing up to a bully. Standing up for yourself or someone else who is getting bullied takes a lot of courage.
People did a lot of courageous things in our past. For instance, Martin Luther King Jr. stood up for equal rights, Anne Frank and her family living in secret to hide from the Nazi’s, and Charles Lindbergh makes the first non-stop flight from New York to Paris. If we did not have courageous people in our past we would not be nearly as advanced as we are today.
It takes courage to do amazing things, big or small. Courage is important in everyday life. If you are not courageous you would not succeed. The book “To Kill A Mockingbird,” by Harper Lee, was all about courage. From the beginning to the end, courage was everywhere. Courage is everywhere today too. No matter how big or small, you have
