Courage To Grow Scholarship Analysis

Improved Essays
I believe I should be awarded the Courage to Grow scholarship of how hard I’ve worked to stay in school this past year. My sophomore year was by far the hardest time for me. I struggled trying to get more involved in organizations, take more credit hours to stay on track for graduation, and trying to maintain a certain grade point average to keep my waiver. The start of my sophomore year started with my single parent, not being able to receive a loan, which would cover the rest of my tuition after my financial aid was processed. I figured this was the end of my college career and I would have to go back home. With the help of a financial aid advisor and my cumulative gpa from my first year of college, I was able to receive an out-of-state waiver

The accomplishment of receiving the Jumpstart scholarship would do wonders in the next step for my education in the subsidizing of the costs that come with attending college. I seek to attend Johnson & Wales University and upon acceptance, have been fortunate enough to receive a significant number of grants and loans from the university that nearly cover my entire college tuition. Yet, my parents and myself still face the obstacle of paying for room rates as well as possible meal plans for the trimesters. This obstacle is only made harder in the additional expenses of books, transportation, off-campus meals and personal items. So, the possibility of receiving this scholarship plays a major factor into how far I will get into attending my first…

To the donors of the Hansen Memorial Scholarship, I am a second generation college student, and I am always incredibly thankful for the tireless push of my parents to attain higher education, but that push has never been enough to obtain education alone. My family lived and worked in a tourist town for 10 years, and when the economic recession hit, it hit us particularly hard. We were forced to sell our home and go into bankruptcy, and my sister and I lost most of our college funds. It is because of this that I am so incredibly grateful for the donor funded scholarships that you and others have so graciously awarded me.…
