Courage Theme Of Courage

Many characters get changed by courage due to events that happen in their lives that causes them to change and show courage. Courage can be shown through friendship or standing up to your fears. Two characters that show courage are Stanley Yelnats and Rikki Tikki Tavi.

Stanley Yelnats showed courage and it changed him. Before Stanley went to Camp Green Lake, he had no courage, but over time he gained it and started standing up for himself. Stanley was a big, overweight kid that got bullied by a boy smaller than him. When Stanley went to Camp Green Lake, he started to gain courage. According to the story, Holes, Stanley leaves camp and travels through a hot desert to rescue his friend, Zero. He also carries him up God’s Thumb to get water

Rikki Tikki Tavi was a mongoose that got washed out of his burrow and an english family took care of him. The english family became his family and protected them from two snakes, Nag and Nagaina who wanted to kill him. He was afraid of them at first, but he didn’t want the snakes to hurt Teddy and his family. At the end, Rikki Tikki Tavi builds up the courage to kill the snakes and go into their hole which was very dangerous. According to the story, “Still, the instant’s delay brought Rikki Tikki Tavi up to her, and as she plunged into the rat hole where she and Nag used to live, his little white teeth were clenched on her tail and he went down with her and very few mongooses, however wise and old they may be, care to follow a cobra into its hole.”(Kipling, 32-33) This quote shows how Rikki Tikki Tavi was brave and had courage to go into Nagaina’s hole where she lived. Rikki Tikki Tavi could of died in the hole where the snakes lived and he risked his life for his family. According to the book, “...tell the garden that Nagaina is dead.”(Kipling, 33) This quote show that he had the courage to kill Nagaina and protect his family from the snakes.

In conclusion, many characters get changed my courage because of events that happen in their lives that causes them to change and show courage. It can be shown through standing up to your fears or friendship. For example, Rikki Tikki Tavi and Stanley showed courage and it changed
