Courage: The Danish People

Improved Essays
The Danish people were brave, loyal, and dedicated towards their country. People looked at them as patriots. They showed all these values through patriotic acts. With each and every act, the Resistance showed themselves to be astonishingly brave. On page 8 of Number the Stars, it states, “news of sabotage against the Nazis, bombs hidden and exploded in the factories that produced war materials, and industrial railroad lines damaged so that the goods couldn’t be transported.” This shows that the Danes are brave enough to go behind enemy lines and destroy factories. It also proves the point that Danes are brave. The Danish Resistance fought and died for their country’s freedom. This saying that they are strong in loyalty. Page 134(Number

In the fight with Grendel, Beowulf is helping the aged king Hrothgar defend his kingdom against a foe that Hrothgar himself cannot defeat. During the 19th century, the Icelandic independence movement started to form while Iceland demands for civil rights increased immensely. Throughout this time the King of Denmark was positioned to meet the demands of the nationalists and Denmark agreed to a constitution, which ultimately became Iceland’s constitution because Denmark ruled Iceland at this time. The constitution consisted upon a repeal to absolute monarchy (monarch has absolute power over his people), which then established a constitutional monarchy. Having the power above important issues was directed to the parliament chosen by the people. The change for the Icelanders was not reciprocated very well.…
