One instance this occurred was in the very beginning of the movie, when Jamal and his friends are all staring up at the window that no one knows anything about. There are stories and superstitions about what is up there and what they are doing, but no one knows the truth. Jamal’s friends dare him to go up there at night, break into the apartment and steal something. Jamal would not have done this by himself otherwise, but because he is around his friends he is daring and acts differently to fit in, breaking into the apartment that everyone else feared. He goes up to question who did it and soon becomes close friends with the man in the apartment, William Forrester. “The secretive author of one perfect book is tutoring the would be thief in advancing his writing skills”.
