Standing up for what one believes in during a time of great conflict can often be hard, but it is also one of the most important things a person can do. For many people being courageous is very difficult, especially during wartime, yet many people have done amazing things for society because they were able to put their fears behind them and do what they believed in. Both The Diary Of Anne Frank By Anne Frank and Hitler Youth By Susan Campbell Bartolini depict examples of people who were able to accomplish this feat. Most of the people in society have a fear of all the things that could go wrong in their life. Those fears are perfectly reasonable, however the people who become truly courageous are the ones that look at all of the great things that could happen if they step out of their comfort zone. As a reference, Hillary Clinton and Carl Blight wrote the following about Raoul Wallenberg in the New York Times, “Without concern for his own safety, he worked tirelessly to save thousands from certain death at the hands of the Nazis” (Clinton and Blidt). Wallenberg was able to overcome his fears of what could go wrong and ended up saving more than four hundred thousand Jews from their deaths. Yet another person who was able to be courageous and overcome their fears was Feng-Shan Ho. An article called “10 people who saved Jews During World War Two” retells his courageous act as, “After the “Kristallnacht” in 1938, the situation for the almost 200,000 Austrian Jews got rapidly more difficult, but in order to leave the country they had to provide proof of emigration, usually a visa from a foreign nation or a valid boat ticket. This, however, was difficult and the Evian Conference, in 1938, where 32 countries had failed to take a stand against Nazi Germany, made this even more complicated. Acting against orders of his superior, Ho, for humanitarian reasons, started to issue visas to Shanghai” (People who saved Jews). Ho saved a lot of people by trusting himself and not listening to his superior. Moreover, Irena Sendler was able to stand up for what she believed in. To show a reference, “[Irena Sendler] helped save 2,500 Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto by providing them with false documents and sheltering them in individual and group children’s homes outside the ghetto”(People who saved Jews). Once again, she is an example of someone who believed in something and did something about it. Some may argue that it’s hard
