Courage Definition Essay

Courage is a powerful word that is used in many different aspects of things. All men and women should have courage to be able to do things in life and be fearless, but that is not how it is. The true meaning of courage is the ability to do something that you know is difficult or dangerous (“Courage”).There is a wide variety of people that are so afraid to go through tough circumstances that they just want to back down and stay away from it; that is not the best way to go. Courage is a word that means a person needs to be able to stand up for what they are wanting to do, but seldom does. The word “courage” does not mean that a life can not live with out any despair, it is about being able to show it and take a stance.
Courage has various meanings to different people. Many words fall under the meaning of courage. Speaking out is an example of courage. Speaking out in front of a crowd is a great ability to have. When a person has to make a speech and decide on what to say, they must practice in order to have people listen to them and not get uninterested in the topic. For example, one person that has impacted me by not being afraid to speak out, is Martin Luther King, Jr. He spoke out and gave his “I Have a Dream” speech and made citizens of America change the way they thought …show more content…
Philosopher, Mark Twain, once said “Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear--not absence of fear.” (“Courage”). I liked this quote of courage because it relates to how the courage definition is. This quote by Mark Twain explains that you have to fight to have courage and then proceed with courage and accomplish it. While acting this out, do not back down and have “absence” from fear or do not have absence of fear ever. During this battle of courage, having bravery is what you need to conquer fear.
