The Greasers and their Heroism
Do you know what a hero does? Well, Being a hero means to show courage and bravery in the face of danger and risking his or her life for another and later being admired by the public society.Being a hero can also mean showing the act of kindness and helping others when needed. Three people from the Outsiders that meet this description are Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade, and Dally Winston. Ponyboy curtis fits the description of hero because is courageous when the church was burning and risked his own life to save the little kids. He didn’t even realize what he got into until he is actually in the church but that doesn’t stop him or decides to turn back instead he just goes on with saving them. You might be surprised but it is true even though dally had done some bad things in his life and has made some bad choices when given the opportunity he does chooses to be the hero. He might seem bad on the outside but he definitely has good inside of him. For example when Johnny and Ponyboy were in the church he was really worried about them. When the timber falls on Johnny Dally runs into the church to save him. Dally also hit Ponyboy on the back because his jacket was on fire. Without Dally ponyboy and johnny might have gotten hurt even more or died for sure. Dally also cares alot about Johnny and when he gets hurt and get brought to the hospital he stayed with him the entire time even though he also got hurt himself. Even when the the nurses won’t let him and the Ponyboy see Johnny he doesn’t stop until he had convinced the doctor to finally led them see Ponyboy that is how much he cares about Johnny he also could have just given up but he doesn’t. Dally shows us that no matter how many bad things we have done in life you can always be a hero. Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally tell us that no matter how rich or poor you are or how many bad things you have done in life you can always choose to be a hero. Saving the children was a heroic act that they all shared. When we get the choice we can always choose to be the hero and these three characters definitely showed this in the book the
