Reflective Essay On Bicycle Riders

I interviewed two (2) Broward County residents who are active bicycle riders. Their thoughts regarding Broward County’s sustainable transportation options to include transportation for bicycle riders follows;
• Personal communication from Mr. Dan Braun who is a cyclist and user of Broward County parks: “Broward County parks are a great place to cycle. Sometimes it is a challenge as joggers, runners and walkers share the same sidewalk as the cyclists. Cycling is a good exercise for me and is a way to relieve stress. One day I hope Broward County roadways will be cyclist friendly. For now, I strap my bicycle to the back of my car and then drive to the local park to ride. Most Broward County roadways are not designed for cyclist and it is more

Marie Erban who is a Broward County employee: 1.) “I must say that until I moved, I did not use public transportation at all – ever. Now, I enjoy taking the Tri-Rail to work Monday through Friday from Delray Beach to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. From the Ft. Lauderdale Airport station, I take a free Tri-Rail shuttle right to the terminal. This not only saves on gas and wear and tear on my car, but relieves the stress of driving to and from work, many times in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the way home, which gets me home at the same time or longer than riding the train. The train is on time about 90% of the time. It has gotten better over time. The new shuttle buses have more room for passengers’ luggage. I like that the seats are not cloth. The old buses are in pretty rough condition. The seats are stained and smell, on some buses the windows leak when it rains, and I’ve seen roaches on some. Also, there is not enough room for the passengers’ luggage on the old buses. The shuttle buses are always on schedule.” 2.) “The two stations I use are the Delray Beach and Ft. Lauderdale Airport stations. Fort Lauderdale Airport station has a staffed ticket booth which everyone seems to appreciate. The station seems much larger than Delray Beach, but I do not see Security guards at this station, which I feel should have two. Delray Beach does have a Security guard stationed there every morning and evening. Both stations …show more content…
I very much like the new shuttles that run to the Airport and I am thankful for that improvement, however, there has been no improvement regarding drivers and their customer service approach with the passengers. The drivers are unfriendly and have an attitude that passengers are an imposition to them. The drivers do not assist with luggage and getting into the vehicles can be difficult for many. From my experience, many drivers will yell at passenger rudely to be quite if the driver has to make a verbally announcement i.e. to explain a terminal stop. 2.) The stations are okay and I would feel safer with more security guards on-site. 3.) The funny thing is, now that I am retired I am getting into the technology mode. I cannot comment on this question because I do not have enough experience in this area. 4.) I am thankful for this

    I have to agree with you that waterway ports are the busiest at the same time I do not believe that are the hardest to secure. Living here in Jacksonville, FL I have several ports around me. There is Jacksonville Port Authority (Jaxport) that controls three cargo terminals, a cruise terminal and an intermodal rail terminal. Blount Island (controlled by the Marines) is one terminal that I am familiar with because of the military. This facility has some of the tightest security even more than some operational bases.…

    Due to the negative impact our company has made to the local traffic, I have thoroughly analyzed our workforce's transportation methods and provided potential solutions. I've conducted an employee survey discussing employee carpool habits, public transportation, and telecommunication. Employee Carpool Habits In the following chart, I recorded how many employees carpool and divided the responses into four categories : Every day , Certain days , Randomly , Never . As shown in Figure 1, out of 43,500 employees, more than half the company "never" carpools.…

    At the first glance at this issue – Whether the bicyclists should obey the driving laws as the drivers do in San Francisco –, it pops into my mind that the bicyclists are not necessary to follow the rules which for the drivers. On the other hand, the bicyclist should have their own rules to avoid the traffic jams. The core reason why I have such perspective is that the authority cannot judge the drivers and bicyclists at the equivalent situation because they have different purposes and functions. First of all, unlike the vehicles or buses, the size of bicycles is smaller. As a result, the bicycles do not occupy as much space on the roadway as the cars do.…

    Dallas was late to build a municipal rail transport system, yet today its DART light rail system is the largest in the United States at a total system length of 85 miles. Troubled by a rocky start, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit authority was faced with the stubborn reluctance of voters to spend any taxpayer money on public transportation infrastructure. However, once the wheels of development started in motion, there was no chance of them stopping. Over the course of 30 years, Dallas went from having the bare minimum of public transportation to having a world-renowned commuter rail system that spans even beyond the boundaries of the city. The economic and spatial impact of the DART rail system is reminiscent of the electric streetcars — save…

    The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is a department that was created to supposedly lax airport security prior to the attacks on 9/11. Apparently, this government plan has failed somehow. It was reported in NBC news that an undercover news team decided to test the airport TSA, where three out of four TSA inspector failed to find banned items in the carry-on luggage. It was unacceptable that those items pass the TSA check. Because of this input, TSA decided to change, implementing systematic changes in how they screen passengers.…

    It had already been determined for me that I was going to race motocross before I was born. Although my family has since moved on from racing, it had been everything for as long as I can remember. I clearly remember the loud and hectic Friday nights and the chaotic Sunday mornings spent at the track. The dedication we, my two brothers and I, had towards the extreme sport and the dedication our parents showed towards our passion will forever be apart of me. By the time I was born, my family had already tried many various forms of racing: BMX, snowcross, or snowmobiles, four wheelers, and dirt bikes.…
