Nassau County is a suburban county on Long Island. It’s approximately 285 square miles and completely surrounded by two bodies of water, the Atlantic Ocean and the Long Island Sound. It has a four season climate with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. In the 1950s Nassau County became a popular community for young adults to settle down in. The houses were affordable, the schools were great and it was just a wonderful place to live and raise a family. At that time there were many family owned businesses, but in recent years more and more chain stores opened on the Island and forced these family owned businesses to close. This caused the cost to own a home and property taxes to go up and many young adults who grew up here had a hard time staying after they finished school. The ones who did stay had to work two to three jobs or have financial help from their families. Times were hard enough as it was and things only got worse the day “Superstorm Sandy” hit Nassau County. Ms. Janine Lane, a Nassau County resident who was born and raised here was you typical blonde haired, blue eyed Caucasian girl who excelled at everything she did and made her parents proud. She came from a large family that included her mom, dad and three sisters. Just out of high school, Janine fell in love and began a bi-racial relationship, which broke the number one rule her parents enforced of not dating outside her race.
