When I think of country music, I think of guitars and Taylor Swift. Country music is a form of popular music originating in the rural southern US. It is traditionally a mixture of ballads and dance tunes played characteristically on fiddle, guitar, steel guitar, drums, and keyboard. There are many reasons behind why many people do not like county music. It’s rated the number one most depressing music genre of all time, people think it all sounds the same, and the main reason, everyone just goes with the mainstream now a days. Country music can be best understood if you know its history, themes, and its purpose. The meaning of Country Music relies greatly on its history. It is a genre of American popular music that originated in Southern United States, in Atlanta Georgia in the 1920s. There are many themes for country music. Some are drinking, cheating, love, death, loneliness, family, and prison. As you can see, the majority of these themes are negative. That may be another reason why many people dislike country music. But then again, many other types of music focus on negative themes as well. Country music is all about song writing. In order to understand the song you have to actually listen to the lyrics. Lastly, the meaning of Country Music relies on its purpose. There are many purposes for country music. One purpose is to share a viewpoint and allow insight into a situation. Which means give knowledge about something which many people may have not known about. Another purpose is to help others. Give them confidence and uplift their spirit. While the music is not always what everyone likes, it’s mainly the stories in the music, or lyrics, are treasured even by those who don’t like country
