This term I read 2 books. School of Fear, by Gitty Daneshvari, a fiction novel, and Counting by 7’s, by Holly Goldberg Sloan, a realistic fiction novel. School of Fear was a just right book for me. I knew almost all the words and understood the plot. Counting by 7’s was also a just right book for me. I could relate to some of the characters, comprehended the words, and understood what was happening throughout the story. Counting by 7’s was my favorite book this term.

The main characters, Madeleine Masterson, Theodore Bartholomew, Lulu Punchalower, and Garrison Feldman all have enormous fears. Madeleine is deathly scared of all bugs, Theodore is horrified of dying Lulu is frightened by closed in spaces with no windows, and Garrison is petrified of deep water. There parents are all very tired of these fears taking up their lives, so when they hear of School of Fear, all of the parents are eager to send their children there. The children meet at the base of Summerstone, and after a rough beginning, become close friends. So, when Mrs. Wellington (there beloved, and a little crazy teacher) has a sudden death, the children must face their fears to save Summerstone from the evil Munchauser. The beginning of this event is shown in the text where it says ‘”What’s all the ruckus?” Theo said as he pushed his face between Schmidty and Muchauser to see what was happening. It was a sight Theo would always remember…. “Welly”s dead,” Munchauser announced coldly, (240-241 Daneshvari). As it is shown in the text, the children all care about Mrs. Wellington deeply and are willing to do anything to save Summerston. As it turns out, the children end-up overcoming their fears and leaving the mountain fear
