The MLDA (minimum legal drinking age) has been a topic that has been debated for quite some time now and probably will continue to be debated in future years. Some people think the drinking age should be lowered while others think it should remain at twenty-one years old. At the age of eighteen when an adolescent legally becomes an adult, and with this comes many responsibilities such as enlisting in the military and the privilege to serve on a jury. Reasons like these are why people think one should be able to drink at 18, but many do not take into account the counter arguments. Many people who are against lowering the drinking age also try to avoid that fact that research shows there would be some positive effects from the situation if lowered.

A study done by The Journal of Studies of Alcohol and Drugs found that “the younger a person begins to consume alcohol, the more likely they are to use and abuse other drugs, such as marijuana and cocaine”(2014). In modern times music has grown to be a huge part of people’s lives. Not only do people like to hear their favorite bands online or on CDs but many also like to attend their favorite band or artist live. Many bands perform in big venues that hold up to 60,000 people which are usually open to the open public, regardless of age. Sometimes they also perform in smaller venues or clubs that have a minimum attending age of twenty-one because alcohol is and will be served at such events.
