The counter argument may fall into the picture for some people but if what I described is not being a nurse, then most of us must be in the wrong career field because that is what nursing is in many of our eyes.
As a certified nurse assistant, witnessing situations of nursing home neglect and abuse is completely inhumane. By law we are a liable to report a case when they occur but encounter a problem doing this because the facility will most likely take the licensed nurses word over the certified nurse aids word. The other problem will occur when a resident is accusing worker of the act of neglect or abuse. A resident with Alzheimer’s disease of dementia is not in the complete right state of mind for somebody’s job to be at stake. Nursing home neglect and abuse is a problem that needs to be resolved soon because if it doesn’t we may one day lose a family member of our own one day. Also, for the people that live in a nursing home, their quality of life may become more and more diminished if the problem continues. Nursing homes were created as a safe haven, they were not created to be a place of fear and doubt. Seeing nursing home neglect and abuse from the perspective of a nurse aid is heartbreaking. It
