To create a trusted and mutual relationship with the financial aid office of the college, Bernier says families must communicate changes in parental contribution capabilities when any the following occurs:
• Increases or decreases in income in excess of $3K
• Changes in employment
• Addition or loss of a dependent child in the household
• Another child entering or graduation from college
• Changes in aid award such as outside scholarships
Matthew DeCreeff, Director of College Counseling, Middlesex school (former Assistant Director of Financial Aid and Senior Admission Office, Harvard ), recommends that parents have honest conversations with the students as early as middle school on how much they can assist with the cost of college. Supposedly, the majority of colleges and universities become need-aware and need-sensitive during the Regular Decision time because the funding resources may become constrained. A student who may have received admittance in EA or ED could get denied during RD because the college can not meet their financial aid
