The Story of My Search Emily Dickinson once stated, “The brain is wider than the sky.” This quote made me want to learn about others’ outlook on life and to get inside their brain. Before starting this project, I knew counseling somehow assisted people with the things going on within their mind. I wanted to know the different types of counseling there was. Counselors study emotional and social processes. They study these things by observing, interpreting, and recording. In this career, you can work independently or a part of a healthcare team. When you work independently, you conduct research or work with patients one on one. When working with a healthcare team, you work as a physician or social worker. There are many other related occupations that are similar to this career such as a school psychologist, clinical psychologist, or a market research analyst. After concluding my research on what counseling psychologists do and their work conditions, I then started search for information about the employment outlook of this career (MS Choices) (Occupational Outlook Handbook). After doing some research, I found that the job outlook for this career is much faster than average. The job outlook is nineteen percent from 2014 to 2024. About 173,900 people were hired as counseling psychologist throughout the United States. As of 2015, 460 people were hired as counseling psychologist throughout Mississippi.
