My desire as I pursue a career in counseling is to work in a community service agency located in my area or a military facility. Since I have taken this class, I’m excited about using what I have learned for my future clients, and will definitely implement as follows:
1. I will use prayer in the sessions. Also keeping in mind, of asking my clients, what type of therapy is the most comfortable receiving, one that is based on prayer or not. As the professional I will ensure that after accessing the situation of the client, and their comfort level. I will use prayer only at the consent of my client.
2. I will also increase my study in the word of God to ensure that I offer biblically sound advice. My job as the professional is to make sure that I help my clients identify what their personal needs are; as well as having a clear focus in understanding the issues they are dealing with; and hopefully raise their awareness to find new ways of paving new pathways to healing that ultimately leads to making wiser decisions. 3.For the clients’ spiritual health, I truly believe that any individual can achieved the best possible state of well being; and

McMinn notes that counselors need to take some things into consideration before introducing forgiveness in the sessions. One thing that is of importance is that the clients should have an understanding that when forgiveness is in place, that it isn’t an excuse, nor should it be confused with forgiving nullify accepting the blame; and I will also point out that when forgiveness is done, it does not mean the other individual will be apologetic, and that reconciliation and forgiveness are different (McMinn,

I am inspired to become a spiritual counselor. Looking back over my life, I think of where I am now. I’ve been spiritually inspired by Christ and by my own desire to help to help and encourage others to do better and be better to themselves and others. I believe that this will equip me to help them in making more decisive decisions spiritually through Christ, and not of their own ways of thinking and doing. The scripture states in Romans 12:2 KJV “ And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God”.…

In my future counseling ministry endeavors, I believe Entwistle’s (2010) text will serve as a useful source for developing a treatment plan for clients. As a result of this book, I am persuaded that integrating both psychology and theology will give me a more holistic approach when treating clients. Before reading this book I would have leaned towards more of an all biblical point of view, but now I am open to the possibilities of incorporating the two disciplines.…

As a young child, I witnessed my father struggle with addiction. After my parents divorced and we were removed from the environment I always knew I would work with that population in life, but I did not know in what kind of sense, whether it was legal or mental health. I was passionate for that population because it was close and dear to my heart. I have always had the mentality that if I could help or save one person than everything I ever worked to that point has been worth it. I wanted to give back to society as they did with helping my fad recover and lead a healthy and abstinent life before passing away.…

My philosophy of change is based mainly on the cognitive approach, but also draws from the psychoanalytical approach. By merging these two together, there is an importance placed on past experiences and how they shape behaviours, feelings and cognitions of the individual in the present. Once this is understood, the therapist can help the individual learn to problem solve, as well as develop new ways of coping with stressful events. My view of human nature is that we are largely influenced by our thoughts, which can be helpful or can cause problems.…

The act of pardoning someone from his or her sinful acts and brought back into connection with God produces a powerful set of tools for a counselor. One area that was especially helpful, was the authors focus on making sure that there is a solid foundation in theology and making sure there is adequate training in using Scripture in a counseling practice. One problem with in Christianity is the lack of knowledge when it comes to Scripture and theology. Many just accept what they are told when it comes to theology and Scripture instead of taking time to actually learn about theology and how to properly quote or use Scripture while they are talking. Due to this, Scripture can be misused or misquoted and shows a lack of knowledge of the users part. The author’s advice to make sure a person is adequately trained in these areas is not only necessary but also…
