Through the course of my internship I was able to give the first ever student needs assessment at Mountain Home Junior High. My mentor and I plan to use this purposeful data to plan and implement several new programs. Using that data, we decided on the type of small group counseling I would offer this semester (AR 9.1). During group sessions, I recorded my groups which allowed me to reflect on my training and strategies. These videos and reflections can be used as evidence for my professional growth. These recordings will also be given to Dr. Dixon for feedback and constructive criticism as required in my Group Counseling course (AR …show more content…
This internship is the culmination of all the training and academic practice I have studied for so far in my counseling training, and an opportunity to put theory into practice. Even through my official job is a physical science teacher I have been able to make counseling an aspect of my job every day. The best part is I am continuing to learn and grow.
I designed a logo for the counseling department, solution seekers. That is my personal motto for counseling, I know I do not have all the answers, but I do know how to help others find answers for themselves. I can’t solve all my student’s problems or erase all their fears, but I will be there to support them through the process. No matter what happens in my career I will never be able to go back to the educator I was before. Regardless of whatever position I hold, I will be now and forevermore an advocate for the education and well-being of

As a student eager to get out of the classroom and experience working in the mental health field, as well as interact with those suffering from mental illness, an internship was the logical next step to gain this type of knowledge. Although this comes with its natural feelings of anxiety and inadequacy, the knowledge and life skills I’ve gained through this experience has helped me grow as a person, has made me feel more prepared to help those struggling, and has given me the skills to overcome such negative feelings in the future. My internship was with Crawford County Human Services, specifically spending my time with the Blended Case Managers (BCM), and for a small amount of my internship, the Family Case Managers (FCM). For a brief…

My educational base as a junior at Dartmouth College has taught me to understand specific events or issues through a multifaceted lens. I believe this comprehensive viewpoint is important because to analyze isolated incidents, one needs to consider the environment and background that created such incidents. My studies in cultural anthropology and international politics have familiarized me with the complex nature of cross-cultural cooperation and political relations, both of which must be considered when working within a country on behalf of the US government. For the European and Eurasian Affairs Bureau, I would consider past and current events’ effects on emergent social and political issues and refer to my living experience in Russia in…

The professional book that I chose to read was “The American Health Care Paradox: why spending more is getting us less” wrote by Elizabeth H. Bradley and Lauren A. Taylor. In this book the authors demonstrate how American is spending more in health care but have poorer health outcome compare to other industrialized countries especially the Scandinavian countries (Sweden, Denmark and Norway). After interviewing different people in the medical field, the authors believe firmly that America will have better health outcomes if the government invest more in social services such as education, employment, training, housing, etc.… This does not imply that spending in health care is a wrong doing, it just means that social services and the health care…

What inspired me to pursue a career in counseling stems from past negative actions I participated in as a young adult. After living a life on the edge engaging in risky behaviors which turned me into someone who was easy to despise. Fortunately, this eventually caused me to seek treatment to address challenges in my own life. This led me to begin working with other people who are afflicted with addiction problems through a twelve step program. This is what first sparked my interest in being helpful and of service to others.…
