Once I arrived at my appointment, Dr. White greeted me very professionally and yet relaxed at the same time. He told me to have a seat at the table wherever I felt comfortable. The first thing he started off with was the confidentiality statement. He went over how no one, not even my professors would be able to know anything that would be discussed in the counseling session. White’s therapeutic approach is eclectic, using whatever the client may need but I got a sense that he would fall into the Adlerian counseling technique. Although it was one session, I feel Dr. White conducted at a minimum the first three phases of the therapeutic process. Dr. White established the proper therapeutic relationship (phase 1), he conducted an assessment that was administered to me and a more in-depth questionnaire he filled out during the session (phase 2) and it seemed he wanted me to understand that I do have stress about being undecided about my academic journey after Langston which is essentially gaining insight into the problem (phase 3). Regardless if Dr. White knew it or not I thought of my future internship and how that would be a wonderful tool to use in helping me to determine what I truly would like to do after graduation and that thought alone was a relief of sorts which goes along with phase 4 reeducation and reorientation. Instead of looking at the problem I could then see the vast possibilities for a future beyond Langston, I am currently more optimistic and I honestly don't spend time worrying about being undecided about graduate
