To me a person who is a leader leads by example. Ever since I was in middle school I have tried to always do the right thing and guide my peers into a direction that is best for them. Since coming to Woodberry my Freshman year I feel as though I have grown stronger in this trait. One example that stands out particularly is when I was on the Bengal football team, and it was a scorching day early on in the year. It seemed as though everybody had a terrible day, and it was looking like we were having a horrible practice. After the opening stretches of the day, I started being loud, cheering on my teammates, and encouraging them to wait till the next play. Eventually people’s mindsets began to change. Rather than trudging around on the field we started to have fun. With smiles on our face we had one of the best practices that year, as said by Coach Reid Hamilton.
The most significant event in my own personal development at Woodberry was participating in my first play. High school athletics have impacted every aspect of my life, including my overall perception of myself. Personally, my entire high school career has been dedicated to cheerleading. Participating in this sport all four years of high school has provided me with opportunities to meet new people and improved leadership skills. Without leadership, followership would not exist. They coincide with one another and cannot be separated, for without followers, leaders would not be.
