Couch Fitz Book Report

To become successful in life sometimes you need the help of others. In the case of Michael Lewis he had couch Fitz to learn from, they met when Michael was only 12 years old. Couch Fitz taught Michael the meaning of hard work, determination and how to face challenges. Couch Fitz helped “how to cope with the two greatest enemies of a well-lived life, fear and failure” as said in the book “COUCH: Lessons on the game of life”. That being said Couch Fitz was trying to teach Michael and the rest of the team members that winning isn’t everything, the hard work and commitment will get you far in life.
In the beginning of the relationship between Couch Fitz and the new team members, they and their parents had lots of disagreements. They felt as if

It was clear that the team was coming along well; they saw their weaknesses and together made each other strong and confident. One improvement that they had to make as a team was being more intimidating, in one incident, a game was going on and Michael realized that he “resembled a scoop of Vanilla ice cream, with four pick- up sticks jutting out from them”, Michael noticed that the other teams dugout “needed a shave”. Michael didn’t feel unnerved though his team had just lost the game; he was more worried about Couch Fitz reaction to their failure. One of the punishments that Couch Fitz would make them go through was running until they collapse or he himself would refuse to ride the bus back, he would walk back in his catchers gear from the ball park that was located on one side of New Orleans to his home, that was on the other side. Though Michael and his fellow team members had lost that game Michael had an experience with Couch Fitz like never before, Couch Fitz had leaned down and rested his hand on Michaels shoulder, thrusting his head right up Michaels, Michael explained in the book that it felt as that moment “ became as calm as the eye of the storm”. He felt as if Couch Fitz was trying to say “There’s no one I rather out here in this life-or-death situation”. Michael finally felt like Couch kept his word of winning isn’t everything, the hard work is was in the end mattered the

One of the fascinating times in European history occurs during the age of the Vikings, which were between the 8th century and the 10th century. There are several different articles that possess different ideas on how the Vikings acted. For example, one article that views the Vikings as harsh and horrific human beings is titled Lindisfarne, which talks about how the Vikings raided a town in current-day England (Lindisfarne). Another example includes a NOVA interview with William Fitzhugh, an archeologist who argues that the idea of the Vikings being “brutal” people is a misrepresentation. The purpose of this interview with Fitzhugh is to make the audience really think about what the Vikings were really like during the end of the Carolingian era going into the Viking era.…

Without my mother or in a situation, I don’t know where I see myself, but I know that all my accomplishments and all I stand for are a product of her example. Success and failure in many aspects are often ambiguous, a successful grade for some may be a failure for another. You may lose a football game, but a coach it may be a success because he found a new play that works or that his team is better than he thought. In life, however being successful is simple and is touched upon by Colonel Murphy towards the end of the novel, he says “When it is time for you to leave this school, leave your job, or even leave this earth, make sure you have worked hard to make sure it mattered you were even here” (Moore 2011:133). In essence, a meaningful life is a successful one; we can defy the other Wes’ life as a failure, for it is meaningless.…

Race was never the main theme in, Sweat by Lynn Nottage, but it helped move the story along and added greatly to some of the characters development. The play takes place in a small town in Pennsylvania where there is one main line of work everyone goes into. Many of the citizens have been in Reading, Pennsylvania for multiple generations and feel connected to the city. The play focuses on six characters who lives focus around where they work and the bar the are always at. Nottage intentionally used multiple races in this story so she could portray how America is a melting pot of all races and to show how everyone deals with a changing atmosphere they are living in.…
