“Newborn Thrown in Trash and Dies,” written by John Edgar Wideman in 1992 is a rigorous astonishing short story where the narrator starts off by expressing “They say you see your whole life pass in review the instant before you die. How would they know? If you die after the instant replay, you aren’t around to tell anybody anything.” But how can you have your life flash before your eyes if you have never had one to review? Throughout the story because there is nothing to “replay” the author instead before the time of the newborn’s death portrays such visions what her life could have been like and shares her thoughts, leaving you with examples from settings all the way to owning regrets, though her life was short, she feels as if her life was…

From my perception of “The Exodus Decoded,” Simcha Jacobovici’s “facts” and “theories” are very easy to prove wrong, and quite frankly, over-reached. As an example- his theory for the first plague, the Nile turned to blood, in which he explained as gases floating above the waters, creating a chemical effect of a muddy-red hue, but if we are basing these facts off scripture, Exodus 7:20 specifically states that the waters turned to blood rather than to the color of blood. In other words, I find Jacobovici quite sceptical, especially about his plague explanations. On the other hand, some of the material covered is almost to the point of being believable. Among the believable foundings were the mass graves of only men found in Egypt- reflecting a possible outcome of the…

This research paper is written on infant and toddler development from birth to three years of age. I chose this topic to research because I am an aspiring Neonatal Intensive-Care Unit (NICU) Nurse. Neonatal nursing is a subspecialty of nursing that works with newborn infants that are born with a variety of problems right after birth (What Is Neonatal Nursing?). To successfully pursue this career, I must understand the process of birth, and how the infant develops. Pregnancy lasts for approximately 40 weeks, but it is possible to have the baby sooner or even later than the due date (Labor & Delivery, BabyCenter).…

Safe Sleep At Home Support of Teaching Topics Healthy People 2020 identify the objective as reducing the rate of all infants’ deaths within one year. Currently the United States is at 6.7 infant deaths per 1,000 live births and the target for 2020 is to decrease the number to 6.0 infants (Healthy People 2020, 2016). Sudden Infant Death syndrome (SIDS) is the leading cause of death for infants until the age of one year (Bajanowski et al, n.d.). SIDS is associated with three key factors that Wedgewood describes as the “three hit model” include intrinsic infant vulnerability (birth weight, premature birth, prenatal smoke exposure), death during sleep, and being introduced to an external stressor, like temperature changes (Ball & Russell, 2014).…

Infant mortality rates are a terrible thing to look at. The city of Milwaukee for example, had 25% of Wisconsin’s infant deaths in the year 2010. Even though the number of births and the number of infant deaths has been declining in Milwaukee, it is still a serous problem. Between the years of 2009-2011, Milwaukee had a total of 205 stillbirths and 318 infant births. With the black population having the highest total infant mortality rate at 14.0 per 1,000 deaths.…

Infanticide in a Legal Perspective: Until the fourth century, infanticide was neither illegal nor immoral. [23] Complete parental control of the father over the life of his child was dictated by both early Greek and Roman laws. Patria potestas refers to the power of the Roman father to decide the fate of his child. Legal sanctions formed against infanticide were introduced in the fourth century as Christianity created secular laws. The Roman emperor Constantine, a Christian convert, declared the slaying of a child by the child's father to be a horrendous crime.…
