Costco Leader-Servant Mentality

In researching the company, there seems to be a clear understanding that the fundamental believe of the leadership is investing in people by placing them at a higher value than the profits of the business. When the strong foundation is taking care of people the return on investment is limitless; this is done by the leader-servant mentality. It seems as if the leadership at Costco took their principles of the Synovus Financial Corporation, “the company’s operations are centered around a well defined set of expectations, graphically bisected by an ordered ‘value chain,’ that focuses first on people and culture, and places performance near the end of the list.” (Hess, E.D., & Cameron, K.S. 2006). The only way to do this is by actions, the bible says, we need to walk the talk. If a promise has been made to someone, then we ought to keep it even to our own hurt. When Costco leadership keeps their word, they are showing their people respect and also that they are honest and have integrity which is held as a very important values throughout the Bible. Another example of business investing in their people is Bristol Airport as it was honored by Investors in People, the UK's leading accreditation agency, awarding the airport a Bronze Standard for its commitment to realizing the potential of its people. The employees went 'Above and Beyond' of what was expected of them. “Sarah Tompsett, head of People and Performance at Bristol Airport, said: 'The Bristol Airport brand is built on exceptional people who take pride in providing great customer service in a relaxed and friendly style.” (Bristol Airport honored for investing in people 2014).
