* 40 years ago in 1973, as a high school drop-out, I made $7.50 a hour ($15,600 a year + over-time and full benefits) in a union sheet metal shop. Adjusted for inflation, today I would be earning $38.90 an hour ($80,912 a year). That would mean that in today's dollars, the $26,965 median wage is 66% less than what I had earned 40 years ago in 1973.(Meyers, 2013)

It is very easy to fall under the position of thinking what is always best for your paycheck or how can I move up in the company and not what is the best decision for the big picture or for the business. As a leader it is important to look out for your employees and think about how your decisions can affect there lives and family’s they are providing for. Furthermore, if all the decisions you make as a CEO are for the sole benefit of yourself then more than likely you will cause great damage to the business you are working for and negatively effect your employees to the point of possibly having to lay them off because of your selfish motives. I have personally seen this is my life by being a team captain on a successful Varsity football team. With these factors taken into consideration, it is becoming increasingly relevant for investors and lenders to pay close attention to Costco’s past performance, as well as future planning and operations. One starting point is to focus on some of Costco’s major strengths of member loyalty resulting in increased revenue, Return on Equity (ROE), and stock ratios are in stark contrast to their major weaknesses of maintaining relevance in an increasingly competitive market, geographic limitations, and sharp rise in current…

Minimum wage is a relatively new concept in the labour market. It was created with the idea that minimum wage will be a stepping stone into a better paying job in mind. As the years have gone by, minimum wage jobs have evolved from supporting teenagers and giving them the necessary experience in the work field to supporting families. It’s this change in dynamics that fuels the argument that minimum wage should increase to a living wage. What people fail to realize is that minimum wage exists for a reason and should it be increased; the positive impacts are outweighed by the negative impacts in the economy.…

Recently there has been a pervasive discussion about wage inequality, particularly raising the minimum wage. Many argue that fifteen dollars per hour or even the Presidents ten dollar ten cent minimum wage is too high with reasons such as small businesses will lose profit and close, people will have no incentive for higher education, and the overall elimination of jobs. Past arguments like these against minimum wage have been recycled since the passing of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. Examining historical data on minimum wage increases will illustrate if these criticisms have been accurate. As a matter of fact historical data would be the ideal information to study when trying to prove the accuracy of each criticism, because since the enaction of this law back in 1938 much data has been accumulated.…

There are three different leadership styles with many variations in-between. The difference in these three leadership styles is the level and location of control. At one extreme is the autocratic leader, which makes independent decisions on how to proceed. On the opposite end of the spectrum there are laissez faire leaders, which have a hands-off approach and allows the subordinates to make all the decisions. However, the democratic leader is the medium of the three, which allows more input of the decision making process for his or subordinates.…
