Costco and Target are the direct competitors of Wal-Mart in the local market, and they are the most significant threat to the market share of the Wal-Mart. Costco is the largest discount wholesaler who can compete with the Sam’s Club of Wal-Mart. Target can be the biggest threat regarding competing with Wal-Mart at all levels. The low-price strategy followed by the Target is the same strategy which is Wal-Mart using. Target is gaining more market share recently by adding more grocery options in stores and expanded its stores internationally. Table 2 depicts market cap and revenue of Walmart and all the competitors.
According to an Indirect competitor, “Dollar Stores” could be the threat of Wal-Mart Company’s market share because of the recent success of “Dollar Stores” such as Dollar Tree, Dollar General, and Family Dollar.
