After the Mexican War of Independence (which were between the years 1810–1821), Costa Rica became independent from Spain. But after the first few years the country struggled. so during 1824 Juan Mora Fernandez, elected the nation's first chief of state, proposed the construction of more modern roads and ports for means of transportation and trade through the country and others . Juan Mora Fernandez also granted land to farmers that would grow coffee. And into the 19th century, these few families that were given enough land became some of the most wealthiest people of their developing country. What monetary system does Costa Rica use?
Costa Rica’s unit of currency is the colón. Named after the first European to visit the country, Christopher Columbus(September 18, 1502.)
