Wal-Mart Argumentative Essay

Corporations are a vital need in today’s global society. People need corporations due to the global scale of trade and supply and demand of all products. Yes we need corporations, but laws should be implemented to limit their control of power. Corporations make a lot of money and in doing so they look at the bigger picture. In other words: corporations break laws to gain a much larger profit and if they get caught they just pay a fine with their much large profits, and this means nothing to them because they can more than afford small fines.
Wal-Mart is a major corporation and with being a corporation it has high effects on society with not only their wallets but also their employees. As implied in the film Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price, Wal-Mart uses bad practices to make a larger profit and later just pay the fine. Wal-Mart has a lot of misdoings in the film such as mistreating their employees. Wal-Mart does not pay their employees enough for them to afford the work based medical plan. Wal-Mart in other words doesn’t support their employees when they need medical assistance. Wal-Marts claims that they give back to the community with ad campaigns that say they give to the needy and to education when really they do not. In an article titled “The Impacts of Wal-Mart: The Rise and Consequences of the World’s Dominant Retailer,” it makes the assumption that while Wal-Mart is one of the biggest corporations in the world it hurts the world’s citizens with their sweatshops and low-income wages. Mostly all articles suggest that Wal-Mart is bad, but society still needs them for groceries and other products of interests in the Wal-Mart stores.
