The reason why I chose this subject was I thought this topic was interesting and I have personal background experience in creating cosplay and attending conventions myself. I started cosplaying when I was in sixth grade. I mostly created cosplay and cut wigs for other people, but then, I started volunteering at a café near where I used to live constantly. At this café, the waiters and waitresses cosplayed and performed dances, skits, or songs. I then learned that cosplay was not only a hobby, I consider it an art as well. One of my questions is whether cosplay is gendered or not. If it is, how would it affect males and females separately? Does it being gendered have a positive or negative effect on the concept of cosplay? What are the good things and what are the bad from gendering in cosplay? My next questions are what types of stereotypes people might hear or think when they hear the word cosplay? As in, I wonder if cosplaying would be considered an open invitation for stereotypes because of its unique style or its anomaly. Do these stereotypes hurt male cosplayers or female cosplayers more?
