I am a first generation high school graduate, and university attendant. I am the eldest of four children, and growing up going to college was not a big priority. The expectation was to get a high school degree and go to a trade school. Well, I did just that, as soon as I graduated high school I enrolled in to cosmetology school. I had always wanted to learn to be a hair stylist or esthetician, since I was fifteen. I thought I could help people to feel good about themselves and their outward appearance. However, I had a bigger passion for skin, and when it came time to decide whether I wanted to do cosmetology or esthetics, I had a difficult time choosing a profession. After tough semester up trying to keep up with school, work, and my disease, I finally realized I need to take a semester off from school to make money to regain my health. After a long, arduous process of regaining my health my thyroid finally was ablated, and I was ready to resume …show more content…
However, school is one of the most important aspects of my life and nothing should get in the way of my goals. Nevertheless, without my health I could not work through school effectively; I could not maintain a job to support myself if I did not have my health. This disease helped me to see that even though school is a major aspect in my life, it is not the only aspect in my life. I first have to take care of my well-being before I can take care of others. In addition, I also decided that in case anything should go wrong with my health in the future, I should at least have something to show for my years at Northwest Vista, so I took an extra semester to finish the requirements to get my associates
