Even though animals have some of the same human qualities as we do, I think companies should not be able to test on animals for the use of cosmetic products. Many makeup, skincare, and household products test on animals. Thousands of innocent animals are in labs everyday getting abused, killed, or put through pain without medication. There have been found other alternatives to use instead of testing on animals. Animals have a lot of damage and abuse being done to them just for cosmetic products, and without any medication to help the pain. As stated in this article “Skin and eye irritation tests where chemicals are rubbed on the shaved skin or dripped into the eyes of restrained rabbits without any pain relief.” …show more content…
“European Union law bans the sale of any cosmetic product that has been tested on animals in finished form after 2004, as well as cosmetics containing ingredients subject to new animal testing after 2013.” (Huffington Post) Laws and countries banning animal testing is a great solution to the problem. The countries that have animal testing banned currently are European Union, Norway, Israel, Turkey, South Korea, New Zealand, and India. The European Union became the first to ban animal testing. Most companies do want to turn cruelty free. “Animal testing is expensive, it can be imprecise, and to to take a cynical view, it can also be a PR nightmare for a company.” (Wischhover) Some popular cosmetic brands are cruelty free, but a lot still are testing on animals. Just a few popular cosmetic brands that continue testing on animals are Avon, Benefit, CoverGirl, EOS, Clean & Clear, Suave, Dove, and many others. Cosmetic brands that say the products are cruelty free may be, but the ingredients or chemicals they are using to make the product are tested on animals. One problem the cosmetic brands are facing is the fact that China requires the product that is being sold in China to test on animals. The companies want to be cruelty free, but do not want to stop selling in China, because of the high potential sales they are receiving from being sold there. A popular campaign trying to stop the use of cosmetic companies testing on animals is called the #BeCrueltyFree. The campaign is working around the world to try and stop the scientists testing on the animals. Many popular companies have worked with and donated to the campaign to try and put an end to animal cruelty. Researchers have now found many alternatives to animal testing. Some scientists are still not willing to do the alternatives to animal testing because they find it more comfortable
