As a person grows old, s/he experiences many things, some with a positive influence on their lives, while others with negative influence. For instance, Cory could have judged that his roommate was an introvert, and he might have had a psychological disorder that kept him from talking to him or any other person. But apparently, he did the right thing, not to judge, or make

Grovenger 1 Society judges the individual by their good and bad decisions are how others see and judge someone. It doesn’t matter what the intentions of their actions are, it is the results that people judge them by. John Steinbeck, in his novel, East of Eden, uncovered and explored this concept. This idea is revealed through his unique writing style and character development. Using characterization and metaphors, John Steinbeck reveals that no matter what you believe, choices are what truly defines who a person is rather than the intentions behind those choices.…

People are often treated or judged in a manner that is less than equal before people know the true nature of the person. For us, judgement is an instinct, we use it to make assumptions of what is safe, right, and wrong. Judgement is the ability to make considered decisions or come to sensible conclusions. Throughout The Scarlet Letter, judgement is displayed quite often. Hester Prynne, the main character in The Scarlet Letter, commits a sin that is heavily looked down upon, and she is forced to adjust to her new life of constant judgement and ridicule.…

“Don’t judge a book by it's cover” this is a saying I’m sure most people have heard, but how many of us really take it to heart? In the essay “Working at Wendy’s,” written by Joey Franklin, the truth of this statement is really brought to light. Anyone can find a time, just as Franklin did, when he or she felt as though they were being judged unfairly. I know there have been many times in my life where I have felt as though people have made poor presumptions about me, and where I have been guilty of the same offense. Joey Franklin describes his feelings and experiences while working at Wendy’s; I can easily relate his story to my own experiences of allowing others’ views to change the decisions I make, my assumptions of others, and my thoughts regarding myself,…

For over 6,000 years, people have been criticizing others based on rumors heard or first hand experience. Many criticisms lead to persecution and ignorance from everyone involved in the situation. Similar to criticisms in modern society, judgments have lead to several persecutions and realizations in literature such as The Crucible and my personal life as well. People should judge others by their inner character, because when they do it brings out compassion; however, when people do not judge by inner character it brings outs qualities such as confusion and insecurity. Last February my friend Bethany showed compassion to her friend Peyton by bringing her to church and changing her life.…

When it comes to the fine art of poetry, there is a fine line differing between good and bad. But how do you decipher when poetry is good? In my opinion, you can differ a piece of flawless literature from mediocre based purely upon the feeling it invokes. A piece of amazing literature can cause the reader to experience emotions that they would likely feel if they were genuinely in that situation, putting them in the shoes of the speaker within the piece of literature. In my opinion, an example of this is the poem “Troll” written by Shane Koyczan.…

Sexuality provides the opportunity to express feeling of love, strong feelings of pleasure and wonder, and true and positive statements of one’s body and its functioning. Many people judge others because of a stereotype or based off of what others say. I think that, as a community of people we tend to suggest that as we get older we lose interest in being sexual. Sexuality is something that is looked at as a younger generation activity for either just fun, or for reproduction. Younger individuals tend to come up with the idea that older people don’t do many sexy or spontaneous things.…
