Cortes Discipline Chart

I thought it would be a good idea to put some routines and charts in effect for the Cortes household. The charts I used were for discipline, chores and rewards. The last time I was at Ms. Cortes’ house, the boys had ripped up her list of rules. This made it difficult for Ms. Cortes to enforce them and be consistent. The discipline chart had five steps; step 1. Starting point, 2. The warning, 3. The timeout, 4. No TV or games and 5. Go to bedtime early. Right next to the discipline chart, we hung up the rules. I explained the Time out chart and the rules to Ms. Cortes and the children. Once Nicholas and Messiah realized what the charts represented they tried to take them down. The chore and reward chart have pictures of the chore. The will make it easy for the boys to follow it. The reward chart listed each boy’s name, the days of the week and the reward they boys can receive. They did not get to the chore today.

Cortes got them dressed for bed, but only put Jordan to sleep at 8:00 p.m. Nicholas and Messiah go to bed after 9:00 pm. 8:30pm when Nicholas and Jordan were sitting on the couch watching the last cartoon. Ms. Cortes and I went over some printouts about discipline, remaining calm, tantrums and cleaning. The most important thing I wanted to leave Ms. Cortes with tonight was, discipline is about teaching and she has to remain calm and positive.

Mr. Dotson, Ms. Cortes told me, April 30th 2016 will be her last day at Project Home. She has been discharged from the program. She has paid her rent for the month, so she can stay at Project Home for the rest of the month. She also told me she was approved for low-income housing, but has to wait a year before she will receive a voucher for a 3-bedroom apartment. I do not know what Ms. Cortes next steps are.
